Objectives

Construct an 18MGD (12,500 gpm) peak day capacity arsenic removal treatment utilizing mulit-media pressure filters with iron coagulant and polymer addition for the removal of arsenic with a raw water blend tank, finish water tank and two backwash reclaim tanks including chemical feed equipment, booster pumps and a 3,320 SF operations building.

Challenge

With 8 months allowed by contract, Western Water Constructors personnel were in high gear.  The treatment plant was treating water by May 1st and the arsenic removal was tested at 9ppb. This met both the deadline and the new state standards.

Result

In a very short amount of time the owner was able to reduce the arsenic in the drinking water from 50 ppb to 10 ppb meeting state standards and providing safe water for the end users.
